Pre-RLBFB (1969)[]
The era for which RLBFDI's third season is the newest one, though a fourth season is in progress.
1969 | |
1 July | The fourth season of RLBFDI, a completely new series with only subtle continuity from past seasons, is announced privately.[1] The public do not know about this show, also called RLBFB, and are happily surprised when it first airs months later. |
16 August | Four invitations were sent to newcomers Violette Dufour, Stefan Krammetjies, Lill Lampström and Lothar Verlier to take part in the new season, as a perfect square number of contestants was considered most desirable. The first three were famous because they hade made a tribute video for RLBFDI in 1964 (when they were living in Paris), while Lothar's face was famous, but not his name. |
3 September | Jacknjellify update their automated editors so that two minutes of an episode can be worked on in a day.[2] |
8 to 11 September | Four weeks (instead of the usual two weeks) before filming begins,[3] all the contestants congregate at where Paper Towel was filmed.[4] All the contestants arrive on location based on where they were previously: those coming in from Africa (Arbutus, Bilal, Bomby, Donald, Dora, Eddie, Nathalia, Penelope, Renata, Roboty, Rocky, Sana and Stefan) arrive first (8 September), those from Europe (Astrid, Belle, Blaine, Claude, Fannie, Frankie, Gabriel, Honorata, Kathy, Khaled, Lela, Leo, Lill, Lothar, Lulu, Marc, Ruby, Simon, Thérèse and Violette) and Asia (Abbie and Yitzhak) arrive a day later (9 September), those from the Americas (Ady, Barbara, Bethel, Briselda, Columbus, David, Eugenia, Flora, Freddy, Frederic, G.P., Jake, Joe, Katja, Joaquin, Lina, Maja, Nick, Paula, Peggy, Phuong, Spongy, Thomas, Toni, T.V.) arrive a day later (10 September) and those from Oceania (Iris, Naily, Terry and Woody) arrive a day after that (11 September).
|
12 September | Changes in location: Bilal is sent into outer space. He can hear the other contestants and interact well with them, but approaching them on Earth would lead to a cosmic catastrophe. |
15 September | Changes in name: Thomas is officially renamed T.B. in order to avoid confusion between him and T.V. (who is never called Tomas). He still sometimes gets called "Thomas" by the other contestants. |
1 October | The intro is photographed. |
5 October | Age-averaged: Lill, Lothar, Stefan and Violette—the younger contestants don't feel so much of a change because of their proximity in age to each other, but Lothar does. He is infinitely more loved as a younger man. |
6 October | RLBFB 1: Most of the episode is filmed.
|
7 October | RLBFB 1: The post-credits scene is filmed. Editing commences as the contestants go on break. |
21 October | RLBFB 1: Editing is finished. |

This is also the first meet-up advertised as a "crossover" with another television franchise. Jacknjellify have joined with the equally wacky H.R. Pufnstuf to promote the latter's new film. Cass Elliot makes a surprise appearance here, where she sings "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and "Different". |

16 July | Major recoveries: At the request of the others, Bethel, Blaine and Kathy are brought back to life, but only if they agree to die before filming for RLBFB 13 begins. Sana is not recovered because she is declared alive (just missing), while Khaled is not recovered because he has been forgotten.
|
17 July | All participants are allowed to return home, but only temporarily. They also agree to visit Kenya at least once before the summer of 1971 so that their yearbook photos can be taken.
|
November | It is announced to the public that RLBFB 13 is on hiatus on account of a "secret project" that Jacknjellify are planning for 1971. Even the most loyal fans don't know what it is. |
1971 | |
7 to 10 June | All the contestants congregate at the same place for filming of RLBFB 13 to begin, based on where they were most recently: those coming in from Africa (Arbutus, Bilal, Bomby, Donald, Dora, Nathalia, Renata, Rocky and Ruby) arrive first (8 June), those from Europe (Astrid, Belle, Blaine, Claude, Fannie, Frankie, Gabriel, Honorata, Kathy, Lela, Leo, Lulu, Marc, Simon, Thérèse and Violette) and Asia (Abbie and Yitzhak) arrive a day later (9 June), those from the Americas (Ady, Barbara, Bethel, Columbus, Eugenia, Flora, Freddy, Frederic, G.P., Jake, Joe, Joaquin, Katja, Lina, Nick, Paula, Peggy, Phuong, Spongy, T.B., Toni, T.V.) arrive a day later (10 June) and those from Oceania (Iris, Naily, Terry and Woody) arrive a day after that (11 June). |

11 July | RLBFB 13, "Return of the Rocket Ship", is released (while editing of the main episode is in progress). Notable extras that appear in this episode (scouted 7 May to 21 May): Connie Cascara, Antonella d'Arezzo, Devon Ductworth, Leslie Winton |
RLBFB 14: Editing is finished. | |
14 July | The last RLBFDI meet-up (as of 1973) takes place. It was supposed to be another crossover featuring the Brady Bunch, but the Bunch refused.[13] Instead of meeting in Hollywood, the crew met in David City, Nebraska (home of the David species), where they distributed memorabilia and answered questions sent through the postal system. None of the cast was present,[14] but inevitably, ships were created that had never before existed.[15] |
7 August | RLBFB 14 was expected to be released on this day. Due to conflicts involving cockroaches and the city of New York, it was postponed to 24 August 1971. |
24 August | RLBFB 14, "Don't Dig Straight Down", is released. Notable extras that appear in this episode (scouted 7 May to 21 May): Nonexisty |
26 August | RLBFB 15: Most of the episode is filmed. It would be most suitable to split it into two distinct parts: before and after the lava is released from the Earth.
|
27 August | RLBFB 15: The post-credits scene is filmed. Editing commences as the contestants go on break.
|
29 August | The reason that RLBFB 13 has been put on hold is revealed through literature: It happened so that the crew could work on something else related to RLBFDI, the Official Character Guide (released on this day). This is a booklet that was issued to a very small group of people and was in great demand during the heyday of RLBFB in the early 1970s. |
3 September | RLBFB 15: Editing is finished. |
14 December | RLBFB 15, "The Four Is Lava", is released. Notable extras that appear in this episode (scouted 12 July to 26 July): Seynabou Ba, Kazzy Chu, Chico Cortes, Cam Daguerre, Petra Dierschl, Vijaya Duradrishti, Solveig Lampström, Bertha McRae, Angelo Marino, Santo Ravelomanantsoa, Rob Spade, Jessie Taggyzadeh, Gualberto Trujillo, Luukas Valkaisualainen |
RLBFB 15/16: It is announced that twenty-six extras have a chance to be in the show. They are all flown in from where they come from, because the last shooting date for any extra was in August. Here are their names, revealed in the next episode.
| |
15 December | Age-averaged: Abcde, Angelo, Belinda, Cam, Chico, Connie, Devon, Erdie, Gualberto, Ian, Jessie, Kazzy, Leslie, Luukas, Mikie, Nona, Nonexisty, Paddy, Petra, Rob, Santo, Seynabou, Solveig, Umeko, Venera and Vijaya |
16 December | RLBFB 16: The join auditions are filmed in one day. |
20 December | RLBFB 16: Just like the previous episode, it is best to divide the rest of the episode into a couple of parts: before and after Two arrives, and after the split itself.

Notes[]
- ↑ According to the Other Wiki: "They started planning the episode on July 1st [1969] …"
- ↑ According to the Other Wiki, according to Cary: "Three months had passed between the completion of the episode storyboard [when I assume the animation process began] and the release."
- ↑ This is because of the large number of characters.
- ↑ Much of this, admittedly, served to piss Ady off; he had become quite a maverick in the late 1960s, and letting 64 people into this secret place (which he hadn't been the first contestant to find) would have really incensed him.
- ↑ If a name appears above a bulleted location, it means that they died/were recovered in the place where the series normally takes place.
- ↑ 6.0 6.1 6.2 This place has no official name.
- ↑ 7.00 7.01 7.02 7.03 7.04 7.05 7.06 7.07 7.08 7.09 7.10 7.11 7.12 7.13 Interpret that how you wish.
- ↑ This point of this episode's contest was to rescue the formerly dead contestants from the jawbreakers they were recovered in.
- ↑ Also doubles as a change in location.
- ↑ The real-life equivalent to an object turning 3D-ish.
- ↑ It's not really an error on the animators' part; he just... ate something orange. Yes.
- ↑ For a while in the episode, it was assumed that she had died in there.
- ↑ Or at least they were refused by the network. Robert Reed was said to have been a big fan of X, and Ann B. Davis was reported to sing the Cake at Stake song whenever she had the chance.
- ↑ Not even David... but only because he was eliminated.
- ↑ Getting there was only half the battle; they also had to be high up to avoid the lava reaching them.
- ↑ Khaled had been dead for the longest of all the characters in the series; he had not been alive since April 1970.
- ↑ A lot of this has to do with the schedule, an important thing to discuss—even in the 1970s. By doubling the number of automated editors, it's become possible to work on two shows simultaneously. It is this episode that unites the two bifurcated storylines.
- ↑ Unbeknownst to them, they are surrounded by some intruders in this scene, who will be (re-)introduced later.
