Tree x Pen - A tribute

Hello there, and Happy St. Patrick's Day! (technically it's not st. patrick's day anymore because it's 3am rn)

I haven't made a blog post in about 4 years, so this must be something really special!

No, not really. Considering that this is one of the first major edits I've made in a while, I'm not really sure how to make a proper introduction for this post, but I take it people care more about the content than anything else.

I've been reading Fake TPOT recently, and I absolutely adore Pen and Tree's interactions as a couple. So, since I had no classes today, I decided to take a few hours to create what most people on Twitter would call an "edit" while hundreds of my university peers were getting wasted a few blocks away. I kind of wish I was t…

Was going to say something intelligent...

Because it's PI DAY!!!!

Unfortunately, if I said anything more, that would give too many signals towards spoilering. You might ask why I'm so concerned about giving anything away when I'm nearly finished with the series, but let's talk about Real TPOT and the latest updates given on Satomi in real life's community page. That's right, I've become a regular follower!

Things seem to be going real well in terms of progress, which is good—at least one version of TPOT is progressing smoothly. Late last night I finally finished this assignment for school (a thousand words for something I barely understand), which means I'll be working on Fake TPOT again!

I know it sounds like I'm complaining about toiling away on a project that's on its way to the ten-mont…

My absence, more headcanons and an announcement

Hi people.

First of all, I want to apologize for posting nothing in the last few days, especially nothing related to Fake TPOT. I've been really busy, oddly enough with things that haven't got anything to do with real life.

I've been reading.

Yes, reading. Not like books or anything (except Type Talk, my favourite guide to all things MBTI). See, I've been thinking that my writing style for the last few episodes is significantly different from from that in previous episodes. I don't know what the reason is, but I've decided to go through a few fanfictions about BFDI and the super strong love connection between our boi and Pencil

      • – Non-binary who uses the they pronoun set.

The important thing to remember is that none of this is canon; Jacknjellify ha…

TPOT 2 (January update) and a review!

This is kind of a special blog post. At first it was just going to be a video review for the latest BFDI-related short, "Claustrophobe's Nightmare", but since I uncovered some brand new information about TPOT (the real one), I decided to double-tag it (or whatever it's called) and talk about both things.

2022 (as that was the date the screenshot was posted on Reddit).

  1. With the TPOT 2 storyboard finished )}}: The storyboard of TPOT 2 has been finished. That means there is at least one person on Earth who knows the entire plot and even the script of the episode.
  2. And approved )}}: I assume that, as with many episodes of TV shows, the script and storyboard have to go through an approval process so that TPOT 2 can be considered appropriate for a viewi…

Special post: “Thanks for 4 Years of Thanks for 4 Years of Thanks for 4 Years!”

Cary animated a lot of this. I can tell with my own eyes.

But seriously, that was a nice short. It made me realize that BFDI as a show has been around for over half of my life, and that means that it's a year away from having its own permitted YouTube account. If it were female, it would have a Bat Mitzvah. The bottom line is BFDI has really grown up over the years, and I think it'd be best if we all thank Jnj and all the other object show creators for the work that they have done to keep the masses happy.

And that's exactly what I'm going to do in the next few paragraphs.

Funny how I've practically divorced myself from the mainstream part of the OSC, but I've still come up with this song as a dedication to it.

I'm nothing special; in fact, I …

Season's Greetings for 2021!

Woohoo, we're back to our regular annual holiday posts! The ones where I talk about how little I've worked on this website over the past year, and how much more I have for the year ahead!

No, that sounded pretty mean. I guess if I have to say something, it's Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from me to everyone who makes up this wiki. We've been through a lot, both outside the wiki (seriously, don't look at any headlines on any day of this year, future reader) and inside this wiki (I haven't been this active since 2018, or rather 2017, considering I didn't do a holiday post in '18).

I guess the #1 reason I came back to this wiki in the first place is the release of TPOT 1, currently the only episode of the fifth season of BFDI. If it wasn't for…

Special post: “The Official Four and X Plush”

but our musing about what the heck happened in this scene is interrupted by Loser calling Four and X "silly rascals" and going "ha ha ha ha ha" all presumptuous-like, which I found hilarious.

Four and X talk to each other in private (they are next to a fireplace because Christmas), discussing things like X's value because it hasn't been addressed in years. Little do any of us know, but X is most likely not worth seven any more, but anything he wants. Shocker!

I was expecting X to say that he's actually equal to Four right now and spontaneously turn into him so there could be some weird clone boss battle or something, but we actually go to the Equation Playground. Ooh, they're going to the formerly prejudiced planet! No, wait, it's a room.

On your most popular TPOT predictions!

Good (morning/afternoon/evening/night), everyone, and Happy Hanukkah to all! Here's a picture of Pen and Pencil celebrating the first night of the Festival of Lights together as a couple in 1986. She's Christian, but she still plays along.

Now that 2021 is wrapping up (there's really one month left until I'm supposed to be done with everything) and 2022 is just around the corner, many people have been talking more and more about what they might find in TPOT 2. The real one, that is. I must say, predictions are one of the most interesting things to read about BFDI—or any other fandom, really—because you get to hear a lot of people's opinions and stuff.

Since my entire headcanon of Fake TPOT is basically an (idealized) prediction of how I think…

Special post: “The Loser Plush is here!”

FEBRUARY and showing a bit of his lofty side once more... but also because it made me realize something.

These plush promotional videos are really quite entertaining. As of late 2021, Satomi and Pokey have been known for running TPOT and the most official reactions come from Cary, but we don't often get to see how funny Michael himself can be, unless it's in these extra videos where he can voice-act anyone and everyone. Even Firey Jr.

Also, today was something of a day of coincidences for me. Not to spoil anything for the latest Fake TPOT, but I was actually planning on putting Loser in it because he was the only one who hasn't been heavily featured in an episode yet. Also, I rewrote Pencil's line about Pen's thick eyebrows before I saw the f…

On Jacknjellify, Patreon and other stuff

This is a lot to unpack.

Now I don't hate Jacknjellify (and I never have), but this is just proof that the Internet brings out the worst in humanity. Do we really want our lives to look like this?

-century situation here. Never in my life did I think people would go off the deep end (albeit rightly so) because they couldn't get the right set of coloured pixels to appear on an electronic screen after paying someone they don't personally know $100 to do that for them. Our ancestors must be rolling in their graves.

In my opinion, Jacknjellify could have at least offered things like 10-second-animations and special RC's at a much lower price to get more representation from people who aren't rich enough to give them their (parents'?) pocket money…

Another AI website?

Remember the RLBFB yearbook? Not that I'm going back to it, considering how I think it's done (pay no attention to the red links on the page), but there's a new website out there, Neural.love, that does nearly the same thing as ArtBreeder. The only difference is that it's much more automatic.

At the risk of sounding like an advertise-y advertiser, this video (by Dennis Shirayev, who is known for his restorations of old films and pictures) drew my attention to the website. I tried it out with a few of the portraits from RLBFB, and it works fine. Check out the pictures below. Much more realistic, I must say, but...

Well, judge for yourself.

Maybe I'll post some more pictures later, or, you could try it out yourself!

BFDI's Swedish special

I'm glad I can still use a keyboard on this trip. I've just finished TPOT 20b... two days after I finished 20a! So much for the fear of not being able to finish an episode in two days. When I write an episode, I used to do it on the spot as unorganized thoughts run through my head. Nowadays I just plan ahead by writing a really basic plot on Notepad, and it makes it a lot faster. Since nobody gets to see it, I can make all the lazy typing mistakes I can!

But enough about my episode-making process. It's time to talk about TPOT 35, "The Swedish Show". This will sound awfully spoilerific, but this is the episode in which Profily comes back from the dead/Botswana/the Procyon star system/wherever they went since BFB (still working out the plot po…

Announcement and a special script (totally not TPOT-related)

Haha this page is empty.

Now, I have absolutely nowhere else to put this, but I just realized that the title of "Fortunate Ben" (released in January 1970) is a reference to the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Fortunate Son" (released in October 1969). Not to mention the fact that Ben (בֵּן) is Hebrew for "son" and that Pen, referred to by the Ben in the title, is also a son. And Hebrew. Man, that's three levels of deep.

You know, "alternate" isn't such a dirty word. Sure, Pencil used it almost derisively to refer to her (more pleasant in personality, yet less pleasant in her opinion) fellow competitors Book and Ice Cube, but sometimes the alternate version of something can be just as or even more interesting than the original. To be honest, I hope that's not the case here, because many of the alternate versions on this page are actually just older versions of the final photos that I've saved, in case I wanted to go back and edit them some more.

Spoiler alert: I hardly ever did.

Anyway, I'm posting them her…

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: The yearbook

I suppose this is the end of your journey. Or the beginning, if you're arriving here from some external link. I wouldn't mind if you took the latter option; in fact, it would be better to look at this page only and not the others (until they're fully developed and edited).

On this page, you will find the RLBFB yearbook in its entirety. Or at least as much as I have worked on it. Unlike most yearbooks, which are usually hundreds of pages long and seemingly contain every event that happened during the school year, this one will be relatively short due to the number of characters depicted in it. This was corrected in later releases.

Now, before I show you this last photo (since this is the point where I suspect…

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: Extra scouting

To quote the Other Wiki, recommended characters are "fan characters 'recommended' by fans of the series." In BFDI's eleven-year history, thousands of recommended characters have made their rounds on the show, mostly without speaking rôles but prominent enough to be noticed by even the most casual viewers.

But how does that translate to the years of RLBFDI, when there was no YouTube, Google, Reddit or Patreon? On this page, you can see how these people from all over the planet appeared in a show that was set in the middle of the world map.

Source: "Origins of BFDI" by Jacknjellify

See "Before BFDI" for more information. Just kidding! RLBFB admittedly started very differently than the YouTube-based series did (no matter what canon it's in), and it also started much earlier.

Okay, this page was created in haste. I should have realized this earlier, but there's no way I can finish all the backstories by the yearbook deadline of the 8th of June, either by editing or by adding.

Anyway, on this page you can find each RLBFB contestant's personal history (and hopefully future—let's see, today is something, something, 1973). You can track this by searching the page for a contestant's respective name in bold (and if already in bold, then in bold-italics). It is presented in timeline mode, as each contestant's backstory does not happen independently but has a small influence on those of the others. Line Analysis of BFB

Now that BFB's overwow, I can't believe I'm saying thisall the episodes have been completed and we can finally get an idea of who has spoken the most syllables in the show. I've never done this before, as a BFDI season hasn't been properly completed since January 2012, a few months before I discovered the series.

Unlike other line analyses I've done, I'm not just going to list the top five or ten most-speaking characters "so far"; I'm going to go all out and include them all. After all, there won't be an episode 31 outside fanfiction world!

But like all line analyses, there will most likely be spoilers, so beware if you haven't watched anything yet.

10.5% of all syllables spoken in the entire season were spoken in this episode—that's 9,138 out o…

This section is all about the 擬人化 versions of the contestants. No extra words, just information. Come to think of it, I should have put this section at the top of the page—heck, at the top of the INTRODUCTION page—but this part is where you will find the important things to keep in mind about humanizations. In the table below, I have summarily listed each contestant's object name, human name (legal and colloquial), gender, nationality, hometown and date of birth (true and modified).

Another new episode of BFB? How unexpected! And by unexpected, I mean completely expected. Jnj posted a few days ago that there would be a surprise new episode… coming out a few days and not a month after TPOT 1.

I guess I'll have to review my first two BFB episodes since the split. Time to bring everyone up to speed on what's happened since last March! Fortunately, I found this episode nice to watch for one reason. Update: That's what I said about episode 28. Episode 29 blew it right out of the water.

Speculating about TPOT (revised)

See this outdated page for more context. Actually, don't. It's outdated.

The year 2021 has brought us many new surprises in the world of TPOT and BFB. Now we know several things: here are the things I found out, in chronological order. If you haven't watched the new TPOT, spoilers abound.

  1. Two new characters have joined TPOT 1, not one.
  2. New TPOT episodes are released every few months, not in one month. BFB is produced more frequently.
  3. Because of that, I think BFB will end before TPOT will, the opposite of what I'd thought before.

But just because we have these things on our minds doesn't mean we have to stop asking questions. In this revised version of the old article, I have written down some new projections for old inquiries, in hopes that they'…

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: Colours

Alternate title: How I Sent DeviantArt Almost a Hundred Search Queries All Because I Wanted to Look at Humans.

If "0%" is in white, it means that no artist has given this particular (skin/eye/hair) colour to this particular contestant. If "0%" is in black, it means that at least one has done so, except that the percentage of the total is rounded down to 0.

Lastly, not all totals will add up to 100 due to rounding.

Well, it wasn't just DeviantArt, it was Google Images and a bit of Reddit as well.

This was admittedly one of the more fun, if time-consuming, things I had done in developing RLBFB. In fact, it's the thing that inspired me to start this whole mini-series when I saw what other people had done.

It was the end of 2020, the tenth year of BF…

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: Heights

21 January 2021 update: I've just watched saw the WarheaddVids video, the one that I linked near the bottom of the page. It's amazing and I like it better than my own analysis.

I've seen a few things go round Reddit, the Other Wiki and even YouTube regarding the heights of the BFB objects if they were in our dimension. The earlier example I saw of this was when Cary posted a video in 2013 where he mentioned that "Pencil is 1.7 meters tall". In the English system, that means she is 5’7”, pretty tall for a woman.

When this was posted, it was big news. This was a few years before P2O or even "Before BFDI" was released, but Pencil was living on in my own can…

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: Names

The process of finding human names for the objects of BFDI is probably as old as the show itself. The oldest example that I have is from 2014, as recorded on a Notepad document. But English isn't the language in which I recorded the first 擬人化 names; no, that honour goes to the language that the term 擬人化 originates from: Japanese.

I had been working on an extremely amateuristic and unofficial Japanese translation of BFDI in 2014, a time when all things Japanese were cool, but I didn't want to use transcriptions of the English names of the contestants, e.g. ペンシル (Penshiru for Pencil) or Japanese translations of the names of the objects, e.g. 鉛筆 (Empitsu). That would be too objectifying… ironically, for an object show.

It was around this time that …

The Stories of Real-Life BFB: Methodology
